MVCP (Mission of Volunteers to Combat Poverty) is a non-profit organization. It was founded on December 16 2000 by a group of young Togolese and a Swiss couple working in the country, but already began its work from 1999. In 2001, the Togolese government publicly recognized the organization and its aims. At the beginning of 2004, it was also recognized as an NGO.
What does MVCP do?
We assume that a new generation with a better education can contribute more to the development of their own country. For this reason, we support capable but impoverished young people in acquiring a suitable school education and vocational training. At the same time, we help to improve the quality of education opportunities and fundamentals for life of the
lower classes of the Togolese population.
MVCP has 3 working sectors, each of which is run separately: General promotion of education and training, village development and clothing production for exportation.
MVCP Working Principle
Our most important aim is to promote the personal responsibility and initiative of the Togolese population. We are not always as successful as we would like. Progress in the education and training sector is also difficult to measure. In order to ensure professional work, in many fields we consult with experienced sociologists, farming and training experts from Switzerland and Togo. All staff in Togo are black Togolese. The majority of them work as volunteers on this scheme, although many of them are themselves practically destitute. The cooperation in Switzerland is generally voluntary so that donations received can be used in Togo without any deductions. In Switzerland, we are also preparing to found a sponsorship and support association for the work in Togo.
